Situation
A mixed-use tower’s common areas — parking, lobby, corridors, plant rooms — each came with their own system from whichever contractor installed them: a fire panel from one vendor, CCTV from another, parking lighting on a fixed timer nobody’s adjusted since installation. None of them talk to each other, and facilities staff check three or four separate screens to get a full picture of the building.
Where the obvious fix falls short
Replacing all of those systems with one unified platform is rarely realistic — the fire panel especially is often locked to code-compliance requirements tied to its original installation and can’t simply be swapped out. Buildings that try to “start over” with a single vendor either can’t finish the project or end up back with fragmented systems within a few years as equipment ages unevenly.

Rather than replacing the fire panel, CCTV, or parking lighting controls, the integration layer reads from each of them — a fire/smoke/water event from the existing panel triggers an immediate, prioritized alert on the same system that also tracks parking occupancy and lobby activity. Parking lighting and ventilation shift to idle-hours behaviour based on actual occupancy sensing rather than a fixed clock, and the lobby’s arm/disarm state is based on genuine occupancy rather than a schedule that doesn’t account for a late event running over.
What this achieves
Facilities staff get one place to see a safety event, a parking status, and a lobby status, without the building having to rip out and replace code-compliant safety equipment to get there. Fewer screens for the same building, and a fire/smoke/water event surfaces immediately rather than competing with routine notifications on a separate system nobody’s actively watching.
What this doesn’t claim
This doesn’t replace or modify the fire panel’s own certified safety function — it reads an event from it. Any building’s specific fire-code and safety-certification requirements take priority over and are unaffected by this integration; that boundary is confirmed with the building’s own compliance requirements before design, not assumed.
