Situation

A small hotel or guesthouse — the scale common for mid-size Pakistani hospitality properties — runs HVAC, laundry, water heating, and lighting across a mix of grid, solar, and generator power, switching sources by habit and by whoever’s on duty deciding “it’s probably worth starting the generator now.”

Where the obvious fix falls short

Standalone generator monitoring tells you the generator is running and roughly how much fuel it’s using, but it doesn’t connect that to what the building is actually doing at the time — cooling empty rooms at the same rate as occupied ones, running laundry during a peak-tariff or generator-only window because that’s just when laundry happens to get done, not because anyone chose that timing deliberately.

HVAC is zoned by occupancy, so guest rooms not currently occupied don’t run at the same setpoint as occupied ones. What this achieves

Front-desk and facilities staff get a cost figure attached to decisions they were already making by instinct — whether to run the generator now or wait, whether laundry can shift by an hour — and HVAC stops conditioning rooms nobody’s currently in.

What this doesn’t claim

This doesn’t reduce the underlying cost of grid, solar, or generator power, or guarantee a specific saving — it makes the existing cost visible and attaches it to scheduling decisions the property already controls. Guest comfort in occupied rooms isn’t compromised to save on unoccupied ones; the zoning only changes behaviour where no one’s actually affected.
