Where the obvious fix falls short

A timer has no way to know it rained yesterday or that today is ten degrees hotter than the day the schedule was set — it just runs. That means overwatering after rain, underwatering during a heatwave, and a canopy that’s either soaked or stressed depending on which side of “wrong” the timer happens to land on for a given week, with ventilation and shading lagging a day or more behind actual conditions because they depend on someone noticing.
