When the power comes back: why your geyser and pumps shouldn't switch on by themselves
When the grid returns, the studio does not slam every load on at once. Geysers and pumps stay off until schedules say otherwise — so the house recovers calmly.
Load-shedding ends. The grid snaps back. In many homes every geyser, pump and AC tries to start together. Breakers trip. Water pressure surges. Nobody meant for that — it is just what “auto” does when nobody designed the return.
What runs in the studio
The Experience Studio at DHA Phase 5, Lahore has a dedicated when the power returns behaviour. Loads come back in a controlled sequence rather than all at once.
Hot water is part of that story. Geyser schedules run for gas and electric heating. A one-hour boost button covers guests or an early start. Critically, geysers do not switch back on by themselves after a power cut. The roof tank and pressure pump follow the same idea: automatic fill with a failsafe off, a timed pressure-pump window, and no unsupervised restart after load-shedding.
How we’d set this up in your home
- List the loads that hurt when they all restart — geysers, pressure pump, roof-tank pump, selected AC circuits.
- Decide the return order — what may start immediately, what waits for a schedule, what needs a person to confirm.
- Put the core on UPS — so the controller is awake when the grid returns.
- Commission with a simulated cut — we test the return sequence before handover.
The point is a house that recovers the way you would, if you were standing at the distribution board.

Before you ask
Will my geyser still heat on a normal morning?
Yes. Schedules run as usual. The special behaviour is only about restart after a power cut — geysers and pumps do not switch themselves back on just because the grid returned.
Does this need the internet?
No. Power-return behaviour runs on the on-site controller, with a UPS on the core so logic survives the outage.
