Curtains that cut your AC bill in a Lahore home

In our DHA Phase 5 studio, living and dining curtains close when the sun hits the glass, log the heat they block, and still respect you when you move them by hand.

Afternoon sun on west-facing glass is one of the biggest heat loads in a Lahore home. In our Experience Studio at DHA Phase 5, the living and dining curtains close by themselves when the sun is on the glass, open and close with the day, and keep a running record of the heat they block and the AC energy they save.

What runs in the studio

Sun-and-heat control watches light and temperature behaviour on those elevations. When the glass is taking sun, sheers and blackouts move to a sensible position. Morning open and evening close keep the rooms usable without someone hunting for remotes. If you move a curtain by hand, a two-hour override respects you. Movie and gaming hold keeps curtains shut while the TV is on. The sheer never opens past a fixed limit so glare stays controlled.

None of this depends on a cloud app staying online. The on-site controller keeps the logic local.

How we’d set this up in your home

  1. Survey the elevations — which rooms get harsh afternoon sun, which curtains are sheer vs blackout, and which motors or tracks you already have.
  2. Choose the behaviour — auto on sun-on-glass, daily open/close, movie hold, and how long a manual override should last.
  3. Wire control into the same home system — wall switches still work; scenes can include curtains with lighting and climate.
  4. Commission on site — we confirm travel times, end stops and sensor placement before we leave.

What it saves in the studio: about 1.9 kWh of AC electricity a day on average from two rooms (20 Sep – 20 Oct 2026), up to 7.7 kWh on a hot day. These figures are calculated by the system from sun position, glass area and AC efficiency; they are estimates, not utility-bill readings.

Before you ask

Will curtains still move if the internet is down?

Yes. Curtain motors and schedules run on the on-site controller. Remote viewing needs a connection; local control does not.

What if I want the curtains open on a sunny day?

A timed manual override respects your move, then automation resumes. Movie and gaming holds keep curtains shut while you watch.
